NNSL (Mar 19/99) - RCMP have laid charges against two Yellowknife youth in connection with a recent wave of break and enters of local businesses.

Two young offenders face more than a dozen charges stemming from the break-ins as well one charge of auto theft.

Yellowknife RCMP Const. Andy Ing was the lead investigator on the case. He said the recent crime spree left enough clues to lead police to the arrests.

"It was part of an on-going investigation," Ing said. "Information surfaced following this recent rash of B&Es."

Ing said the majority of break-ins occurred over the last two weeks at a variety of businesses, including, the Country Corner Store, Javaroma, Canadian Pizza, Langlois, Zen-Asian Food Store and the Polar Bowl.

"We focused our attention towards them and identified a few suspects," Ing said.

"We may have more charges to lay as the investigation continues."

Sgt. Marlin Degrand commended the investigators for bringing a quick close to the cases.

"I'm very pleased with the work of the members in our office," Degrand said. "They've done an excellent job of addressing these B&Es."
