NNSL (Dec 23/98) - The Elk's Club Father's Day raffle draw is going well.

It's going so well, in fact, that the organization has decided to hold the draw on New Year's Eve instead of in June.

"We're six months ahead of time," said Elk's manager Dave Hurley. "We knew we would sell tickets but we didn't expect we would sell that many that fast."

The club sold 3,000 tickets in five weeks, the last one selling during Monday's telephone interview with Hurley. Hurley said club members had a lot of help selling the tickets.

"We took it out to the people. We had different businesses sell them for us."

The businesses were Wal-Mart, Wolverine Sports, Force One, Weaver and Devore, Bumper to Bumper and Harley's Hard Rock Saloon.

The tickets were $20 each. Add it all up and a whopping $25,000 will be donated to the Stanton Yellowknife Hospital Foundation.

"We've always supported the hospital," Hurley said. "We're very pleased that it went well."

The draw for the five prizes will be held on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m. at the Elk's Club. First prize is a Fat Boy Harley Davidson, second is a nine-horsepower outboard motor, third is a trip for two to MacKay Lake Lodge, fourth is a set of Callaway irons and fifth prize is a $500 gift certificate from Wolverine Sports.
