NNSL (Dec 18/98) - Looking for someone to look after the kids on the year's biggest party night?
Look no further than Sir John Franklin high school.
Grades 10 through 12 French students from the school will be off to Paris in the new year for a school trip. With the costs for the experience in France's capital at about $2,500 a student, the gang have been working away at unique fund-raising activities.
They've sold spices, done bottle drives -- they'll be out and about in Yellowknife December 27 and 28 for another one -- and have been involved in other activities.
Now, they've added a new one to their list as the date of the trip gets closer.
On New Year's Eve the students are offering a babysitting service for local parents. They're calling it the New Year's Eve Babysitting Gala.
"Parents can leave their kids with a babysitter that is actually going to do something," student Nancy MacNeil says.
"The (parents) can go out and leave their kids in a new environment," Aaron Black adds.
The service will be offered at William McDonald school from 7:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Dec. 31. With adult supervision on hand, the students will be presenting games and other activities to keep their charges busy through the night.
"It's a good fund raising idea," Rebecca Alty says.
Kids between the ages of two and 12 are welcome. The cost is $60 per student and $100 per family to a three child maximum.
