FORT LIARD (Jul 10/98) - Spend a few minutes with Fort Liard's Patrick Nagy and you definitely learn the following about him -- this guy loves his work.

The 16-year-old, who will be going into Grade 11 this year, began working at his community's Northern Store earlier this year. And, he quickly decided the job was for him.

"This is a great job," he says during a quick break from his work recently. "It has great hours (weekends and after school) which means I can work around my studies. (And) I work with some great people."

Nagy's duties include stocking the shelves, operating the cash register, sweeping the floor and generally being on hand to help customers out.

"I enjoy talking with the people and helping them find what they want," he says. "I talk to the tourists about where they are from."

So far this summer, he's met people from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Quebec, across the United States and England.

You might call him a Fort Liard ambassador.

With his studies still an obvious priority, Nagy says he's saving up for a trip with the money he makes from Northern. His destination? A trip to northern Saskatchewan for a visit with his grandparents.

When not working at Northern, you'll find him drawing, writing -- some of his work has been published in the Drum this year -- biking and fishing.

Drop by for a visit next time you're at the Fort Liard Northern Store.
