NNSL (Jun 08/98) - The lineup for this year's Folk on the Rocks music festival is beginning to take shape.

The three-day event welcomes musicians from across the NWT and from southern climates to Yellowknife to perform for residents and visitors alike.

The majority of the acts are from the North, a primary goal of the organizers of the festival to stage a truly Northern musical festival.

And while the festival is still more than a month away, musicians are already lining up to get their spot on the schedule.

Confirmed acts for Folk on the Rocks include Yellowknife artists Tom Hudson, Leela Gilday, and rap hip-hop group Unonymous.

Northern artists who have already sent in their confirmations include David Gon, the Delta Goodtime Band, the Kickers and Eddie Kikoak.

Artists who will be coming up from other parts of Canada include violinist-guitarist-vocalist Teresa Doyle from Prince Edward Island; harmony-instrumental group Modabo; Toronto-based band Morgaine Le Fay; Mishi Donovan; and southern Ontario artist Big Rude Jake.

But invited acts for Folk on the Rocks are not limited to north of the 49th parallel. Guy Davis, a blues guitarist from New York City, is also scheduled to play the festival.

Folk on the Rocks takes place in Yellowknife from July 17-19.
