Monday city council meeting may not happen

NNSL (Jun 05/98) - Monday's council meeting is in jeopardy.

Though Yellowknife city administration is preparing an agenda, there's a good chance five alderman will be out of town Monday evening, when the regular meeting of council is slated to take place.

Aldermen Cheryl Best and Bob Brooks are at a chamber of commerce course in London, Ont. Aldermen Robert Slaven, Ben McDonald and Kevin O'Reilly, along with city clerk Tim Mercer, will be at a Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Regina.

A minimum of five of the city's eight aldermen are needed to have a meeting.

Administration was sure the aldermen at the municipalities conference would not be back in time, but did not know Thursday if Best and Brooks would return for the meeting.

Earlier this week, committee meetings that would normally have taken place were cancelled.
