NNSL (Jun 05/98) - The best of the Yellowknife's young bikers were named earlier this week, as results of the annual bike rodeo were tabulated.

Winning top honors, and his third free bike in as many tries at the bike rodeo, was overall boys winner Tony Pidborochynski.

It was the first over-all win for the Grade 4 N.J. Macpherson student. Pidborochynski scored 286 out of a possible 300 points on written and riding tests.

More than 200 students from kindergarten to Grade 6 tested their knowledge of the rules of the road and biking skills at the rodeo, hosted each year by the city's municipal enforcement division.

This year's event was held Sunday at the Yellowknife Community Arena.

Scoring the highest among the girls, with 257 points, was Krystal Shaben.

"I got the best of my own family," said the 10-year-old Shaben, who made an excited phone call to her mother after being presented with her new bike Wednesday.

It was Shaben's first try at the rodeo.

Boys and girls winners in each age group received bicycles, with a host of locks, speedometers and other biking paraphernalia going to second- and third-place finishers.
