NNSL (Jun 05/98) - The developers of what is to be Yellowknife's newest hotel will hold community consultations Wednesday evening at the Range Lake North school.
The proposed plans will be explained to the public, who will be asked for
input, said Ian MacAuley, vice-president of Royop Hospitality Corp, which
owns Super 8 Motel Canadian franchise rights.
Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The 66-room Super 8, to be located near Tim Hortons fronting Old
Airport Road, will be a $3.7-million, four-storey building.
The room rate of $85 will include continental breakfast and an
airport shuttle bus. Super 8 has no plans to include a restaurant or bar.
"Its amenities will be suitable for families and businesspersons
seeking to take advantage of its proximity to medical facilities, shopping
and the airport," MacAuley said.
"The Yellowknife Super 8 plans to target the economy-minded
traveller seeking quiet, clean comfortable rooms."
It will be built to the same standards as the 22 existing or
planned Super 8s in Alberta. There are 1,650 Super 8s across North America.
The new motel could be open late this year or early 1999. It is anticipated
that Northerners will hold the majority of shares.
