Rash of Easter break-ins in Providence
Thieves make off with school and church money by Arthur Milnes
FORT PROVIDENCE (Apr 24/98) - Thieves chose the holiest days of the Christian calendar to rob both the local school and church of funds over the Easter weekend in Fort Providence. All told, there were four break and enters in Fort Providence over the long weekend, RCMP say. The local preschool and natural resources office were burglarized, too, but it is the other two thefts that have people shaking their heads. When the Yamoria Grocery was broken into, a thief or thieves decided to make off with a donation box for a charity placed there by Our Lady of Providence Roman Catholic Church. And, when Deh G'ah elementary and secondary school was entered the same weekend, $250 earmarked for student's needs was taken. "We don't usually have a lot of break and enters here," RCMP Const. Clare Kines said of the break-ins. "We have a couple of leads that we are working on right now." At the natural resources office, food meant for hunters on community hunts was also taken. "Anyone with any information regarding these break-ins or any other crimes is asked to contact the Fort Providence RCMP detachment," Kines said, adding that people with information could also contact CrimeStoppers. |
