Nahanni Butte man to do jail time by Arthur Milnes
NAHANNI BUTTE (Apr 03/98) - A 29-year-old Nahanni Butte man was sentenced to 16 months in jail after assaulting his common-law spouse and her father March 20. RCMP from Fort Liard were called in and arrived that afternoon, along with a nurse to tend to the father's wounds. He was later medevaced to Yellowknife and his injuries are not considered life-threatening, RCMP said. The man was taken into custody and moved to Fort Simpson to face charges before a justice of the peace at a special session March 21. After pleading guilty to assault, assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation, the justice of the peace sentenced him to a 16-month jail term. Fort Simpson RCMP Cpl. Tonia Enger escorted the prisoner to the Yellowknife Correctional Institution on March 22 to begin serving his sentence. |
