Fort Simpson (Mar 20/98) - Fort Providence RCMP -- with an assist from officers from Hay River -- seized marijuana, drug paraphernalia, cash and booze during a raid Saturday night in the hamlet.

They were executing a search warrant on a Fort Providence residence when the items were discovered. A total of four officers conducted the search and made the arrests.

All told, six people -- five adults and one youth -- are now facing charges. Four adults will have to answer to possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking while another adult and a youth were charged with possession.

"For Fort Providence, it's a fairly large amount," RCMP Const. Clare Kines said Monday. "We're looking at seven eighth-of-an-ounce bags, five joints, six one-gram bags and five mickeys."

Four of the group will appear in territorial court in Fort Providence on April 22 while the youth and another adult will face the charges in youth and justice of the peace court respectively.
