NNSL (Mar 06/98) - Jon Posynick managed to get the attention of MuchMusic.

Together with three of his friends, the 16-year-old put together a 15-minute video that was clever enough and funny enough to entice MuchMusic to come to Yellowknife during the Arctic Winter Games.

"My dad asked me if we could get a group of people together to get a video going. We had the help of Steve Yanciw and we wrote down some ideas of what we could do," says Posynick, a student at St. Pat's.

"I basically wanted to do a couple of interviews with people in the school and I asked them 'what would you be willing to do to get MuchMusic to come to Yellowknife?'" says Owen Chan, one of Posynick's co-workers.

Chan says he has footage of teachers doing cartwheels in the halls and playing barefoot outside in the snow.

The video took three months to produce, cost a total of $40 and had tremendous results.

"They worked really hard and were ultimately rewarded for their efforts. It was a great way to get their attention," says Jon's father, Jim Posynick.

The camera crew complete with video-jockey Juliette Powell land in Yellowknife next Wednesday morning and according to Jim, they will travel around the city and shoot footage for one of their programs.

"They'll drive around with a camera and visit the sites and the (music and arts) venues and shoot footage for their annual show Snow Job," says Jim, a member of the host society board for the games.

MuchMusic will also host a video dance party while they're in town. Happening at the DND hangar on Old Airport Road, the dance for the 1600 athletes runs March 18 from 7 to 11 p.m. and is free to all athletes and volunteers.

Admission can only be gained with the proper AWG identification cards and anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to attend the event.
