FORT SIMPSON (Mar 06/98) - Travel between Fort Simpson and Yellowknife is about to become easier.

Beginning April 1, Air Tindi, a well-known Northern airline, will be offering morning flights to Yellowknife from Fort Simpson. And, the airline will be returning to the village from Yellowknife with daily departures -- except Saturdays -- at 6 p.m. The flights will arrive in Fort Simpson shortly after 7 p.m.

Air Tindi representatives Alex and Peter Arychuk briefed Fort Simpson village council on their plans Monday night and were met with an enthusiastic response.

"It's welcome to town," councillor Ron McCagg said with his words being echoed by other local politicians.

"I think it would be a great service," Mayor Norm Prevost said.

Alex Arychuk said the company's local agent will be Simpson Air and that his airline will be operating out of the airstrip in the village proper.

He also said that Air Tindi will be using a nine-passenger, turbo-prop Cessna on the trips.

Currently, First Air provides service to Yellowknife. However, schedules are done in such a way that is impossible to do a return trip to the capital in one day.

Alex Arychuk said that Air Tindi's fares will be comparable to what is currently being charged by First Air.
