FORT PROVIDENCE (Feb 13/98) - With the theme "I just want to happy" repeated as the guiding force, the organizer of a residential school healing gathering in Fort Providence says plans are well under way for the second such gathering.

"It will be held in the community rather than at the healing camp because of unsafe ice conditions," says co-ordinator Margaret Thom. The gathering follows the one held last fall in Fort Providence and will be an opportunity for former residents of Sacred Heart residential school and other institutions to gather together in healing.

"The first one was a tremendous success due to the environment," Thom says. "(We were) out on the land with the natural healing elements... The exciting part was we didn't know how it would go but we put it together and it worked well."

This time, the gathering is proposed for March 30 to April 3. Like last time, participants must have two years of sobriety, a former residential school student, be currently on a healing journey and be supported by family, friends and the community, Thom said.

"People who have taken part in previous gatherings are welcome to take part in other ways," she says.

And, upcoming gatherings will be scheduled for June and September.

Anyone interested in registering should contact Margaret Thom as soon as possible.
