RANKIN INLET (Feb 11/98) - The Keewatin Regional Health Board has a new chief executive at the helm less than three weeks after former boss Jim Egan was fired.

Acting chair Percy Kabloona made the announcement Friday that Chris Keeley, a former Rankin Inlet resident, would take over as the region's interim executive director.

Keeley is a GNWT employee who has already held several positions within government, including regional superintendent of personnel, as well as with the Financial Management Board Secretariat in the Keewatin.

Health Minister Kelvin Ng said that Keeley's appointment is the first step toward restoring stability in the region's health-care system.

"Our department will continue to work with Mr. Keeley, the board and other Keewatin stakeholders to ensure that the concerns of Keewatin residents are addressed," he said.

As of Monday, Keeley will hold the position for an estimated four months. By June, the board is expected to have found a permanent CEO.
