NNSL (Dec 05/97) - RCMP rushed a Yellowknife man to Stanton Regional Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. He was stabbed in the chest with a steak knife about 10 hours earlier.

Police say several men were out on the town drinking and came back to a Frame Lake South residence early in the morning.

A fight started after one man threw a telephone against the wall.

The owner became angered and a fight ensued. The owner was stabbed in the chest, just below his breastbone.

"He called at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. I went there and took him right to the hospital," said Staff Sgt. Dave Grundy on Wednesday.

Two male suspects were arrested later in the afternoon in connection with the incident. One man was released early Wednesday morning without charges.

A 22-year-old Yellowknife man of no fixed address was kept in custody and has been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim remained in satisfactory condition at Stanton. The blade penetrated 10 centimetres into his chest, but the injury is not life threatening.

"All these guys are not bad people," said Grundy. But when they are fuelled by alcohol, things can go down hill quickly, he added.

Grundy said he sees these types of incidents on a regular basis. "I call it Molson courage."
