NNSL (Dec 24/97) - Residents and businesses in the area of the old liquor store warehouse last week said they don't have any major objections to the city considering the site for its new twin-pad arena.

About 12 residents and business owners showed up for the evening meeting, said community services committee chair Cheryl Best.

"There were no complaints from the public, so it's looking like a useable site, so long as the price is right," said Best.

The land is located on Old Airport Road, across from McDonalds.

The city is currently negotiating a price for the site with its owners, the territorial government.

Best said the closest thing to an objection expressed at the meeting was one businessman's concern that a fence would need to be built around his business to combat an increased potential vandalism.

Currently, three other sites remain on the city's short list -- two adjacent to the Explorer Hotel and one on Twin Pine Hill.

The community services committee, which is makes recommendations to council on the proposed new twin pad arena, meets again on Jan. 12.
