NNSL (Nov 28/97) - The Fort Providence ferry is still providing regular service, says Les Shaw, Department of Transportation superintendent of the Deh Cho region.

Due to ice and water fluctuations there have been a few short delays, noted Shaw. He added it is unknown when the ice road across the Mackenzie will be built.

Shaw said the only thing that could delay building of the road would be if the weather gets too cold to work.

According to the Department of Transportation records, in the last 10 years, the earliest date the ferry had been pulled out of service was Feb. 1 and that was in 1988.

The latest the ferry has been pulled out of service is May 6, in 1993.
