FORT SIMPSON (Nov 21/97) - With Christmas just over a month away, plans are in place to ensure all of Fort Simpson shares in the holiday feeling.

Last week, members of Sacred Heart Parish Council met to nail down plans setting up Christmas hampers to help the less fortunate among us this year.

"There was a real good spirit," council member Doug Robertson said of the meeting. "We're going to do a door-to-door food drive on Dec. 6."

The council, with help from the Friendship Centre and the GNWT's Department of Education, Culture and Employment, is looking for both canned and dry goods to stock the hampers.

"Off and on, we'll set up a table (at the Northern Store), letting people drop things off as they shop," Robertson said. "We want people to know well in advance and we hope people will be generous as possible on Dec. 6. It can make a real difference to someone's Christmas."

In other Christmas news, Robertson said that the Northern Store will again be placing an Angel Tree on site.

"Response was tremendous last year," he said. "We hope to have that up and running by the 24th of November."
