RCMP veteran joins bylaw
Sgt. Paul Gamble replaces Gil Cox at city hall by Jeff Colbourne
NNSL (Oct 29/97) - RCMP Sgt. Paul Gamble is Yellowknife's new municipal enforcement manager, effective Dec. 1. He's filling Gil Cox's position, which has been vacant for a month. "I'm looking forward to the job and getting to learn the goals municipal enforcement has set," said Gamble yesterday. "I've spent 27 years in the RCMP and I've enjoyed all my time, especially in the North, but I've been looking to expand my horizons and getting into a field other than RCMP." Gamble has extensive policing and management experience with RCMP, assets that should come in handy at city hall. He began his career in 1971 in Lewisporte, Nfld., and then moved around the province, working in St. John's and later Placentia. In 1981 he moved on to Nova Scotia, then P.E.I., and finally to the North in 1993. Gamble worked in Aklavik for a year, Fort Simpson for two, Rankin Inlet for several months and finally Yellowknife, where he is currently the sergeant in charge of the commercial crime section. Dave Nicklen, director of public safety, said he is pleased with having Gamble as their new bylaw manager. "Everybody we talk to (who) knows Paul says we've got a really good pick," he said. Gamble, Nicklen said, will be busy at city hall dealing with day-to-day operations of the department, applying bylaws and revising bylaws when necessary, dealing with complaints, licensing and traffic offences. "He won't have time to be bored," said Nicklen. |
