Heavy legislation
The 13th legislative assembly resumes with members aiming to conclude a heavy slate of legislation.

Over three or four weeks, the assembly, which reconvenes today at 1:30 p.m., will finish its fourth session and begin its fifth session.

Six bills are currently before social programs and infrastructure committees.

Four of the six are family law bills (Bill 3: Family Law Act, Bill 4: Children's Law Act, Bill 5: Adoption Act, and Bill 6: Child and Family Services Act).

Bill 15 an act to amend the Workers' Compensation Act and Bill 19: Municipal Statutes Amending Act, No. 2 are also listed on the order paper.

Bill 20, an act to amend the Property Assessment and Taxation Act, is to receive first reading.

Reports
Cabinet could bring a number of reports forward in this session, ordinary members house leader Jake Ootes said.

Among them, a report on Nunavut electoral boundaries.

Policy on methods of contracting in the NWT may also be discussed, Ootes said.

"We want to debate merits of negotiated contracts," he said.

Also on the agenda is a report card-style review of the assembly at the half way point.

"When we elected cabinet, it was decided we would have a mid-term review of government performance and policy," the Yellowknife Centre member said.
