FORT SIMPSON (Sep 26/97) - The race is on.

Along with back to school for the kids; the return of the Northern Lights and the fall colors, October also means something else happens every three years when fall arrives -- election time.

On Oct. 20, Fort Simpson voters will take time out to elect the mayor and council that will take the village into the new century.

A lot of attention will be focused on current mayor, Norm Prevost, who is being challenged by John Hazenberg for the village's top job.

At the council level, five non-council members: Carl Lafferty, Daniel Lapierre, Ron McCagg, Marilyn Napier, Gordon Villeneuve and Patrick Wood, have filed nomination forms.

Incumbents Ken Brown, Robert Hanna, Owen Rowe, Lindsay Waugh and Tom Wilson have filed and will once again be placing their names before the village electorate.

Richard Wright, Peter Erasmus and Stella Gargan are not running this time.

At the District Education Authority, councillors Ernest Cazon, Gerard Fradsham, Betty Hardisty, Doug Robertson, Shane Thompson and Connie Villeneuve have all been acclaimed.
