Sexual assault suspect sought

NNSL (Aug 08/97) - RCMP were still looking yesterday afternoon for a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on Franklin Avenue early Wednesday morning. Yellowknife RCMP Sgt. Wylie Grimm said the investigation into the 2:30 a.m. incident is continuing and progress is being made. "There's been no apprehension of a suspect as yet, but the investigators are making some progress," he said Thursday. Police were called to The Gallery pub early Wednesday morning, where they determined a sexual assault had occurred outside the bar. The bar had closed for the night prior to the incident taking place, said Grimm. The female victim was taken to Stanton Regional Hospital for medical treatment after police arrived. Grimm said he could release few details because of the sensitive nature of the investigation and allegations. However, he did say that police were interviewing bar staff yesterday and have a theory that the suspect was at the bar Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Grimm also said the suspect police are looking for is a white man believed to be about five feet three inches tall. |
