NNSL (July 23/97) - Visitors to Pilot's Monument may have a more enjoyable time next year after the city finishes its proposed additions to the site in Old Town.

The city's development committee met Monday to approve the proposed plan to add parking area and picnic tables to the area below Pilot's Monument.

Bob McKinnon, director of planning and lands, said that the idea to improve the overall look of the site has been on the city's books for three years.

"It's an ongoing exercise for planning and lands to upgrade these areas when possible," he said.

The next step is to notify residents in the area that the empty space on Ingraham Drive will be used to make the area look more appealing.

"It will definitely improve the attractiveness of the area," said McKinnon. "It will make it more attractive for both tourists and residents."

McKinnon said the plan is preliminary and couldn't estimate how much the project will cost. He did, however, predict that the site will be finished by next summer.

Funding for the proposal is still pending the approval of the 1998 city budget.
