What a weekend!
More than 200 volunteers put Folk on the Rocks together by Cheryl Leschasin
NNSL (July 23/97) - Even a small rain shower Saturday evening did couldn't dampen the spirits of the crowd at Folk on the Rock.
"We had a bit of a cloudburst Saturday night, but it was fun because the sun was out," said festival organizer Ina Murray.
Plastic drop sheets were let down during the shower to protect the musicians' equipment.
An official count of how many people attended the 17th annual festival won't be available until later this week, but Murray said she was pleased with the overall turnout.
"Saturday the numbers were up, but Sunday wasn't as busy. It was still a good turnout."
Besides having more than 100 performers -- Northern and not -- the event boasted 10 food booths and 18 arts and crafts vendors.
The Folk on the Rocks organization is a non-profit organization. Murray said in years past the event has either made a little money, or gone into debt.
"This year we'll break even," she said.
One of the hits of the event was undoubtedly the volunteers and the spirit they showed.
"We had about 200 volunteers doing security, cleanup, setup, hospitality, accommodations, ground transportation, cooking, serving, delivering, merchandise, money-handling, ticket sales, registration and contract negotiation, among other things."
