NNSL (July 18/97) - If the good old satellite forecast holds, the weather should be fantastic for this weekend's blockbuster music festival known as Folk on the Rocks.

Ina Murray, who's this year's co-ordinator, says despite smaller government grants, businesses in Yellowknife have been fantastic in ensuring this year's festival is just as good, if not better than events in the past.

Along with Canadian North, the main corporate sponsor, Murray says NorthwesTel is underwriting Mary Jane Lamond's appearance, the NWT Power Corporation is paying for a children's performer and the French Cultural Association has contributed money to have Louisiana's Bruce D'Aigrepont Cajun Band.

This year is also making history with its new Alternative Stage area, where as well as appearances by the Killjoys, local alternative performers Travis Armour, Moondoggie and Mingus Law will be performing.

An on-site vocal workshop will also be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. run by the a capella threesome, Ulali, whose member, Pura Fe, has sung with the Mercer Ellington Orchestra and appeared on Broadway in several plays.

Along with dozens of on-site offerings from city food vendors, local artisans will also be showcasing their latest creations.

And, well, if the weather doesn't hold, Murray says not to worry.

"We have everything ready to go at the arena, where we will be able to stage all the events. Just listen to all three local radio stations for details."
