NNSL (July 16/97) - Firefighters quickly doused a vehicle fire Monday afternoon that left its driver shaken and her van's engine destroyed.

Smoke began billowing from the 1986 Ford Aerostar's engine compartment just before 3 p.m. while Dilbera Memedovski was driving down Con Road.

"It suddenly caught on fire," she said, still a bit shaken, more than an hour after the incident.

Deputy fire chief Mike Lowing suspects an electrical problem caused the fire. The fire department is still investigating the vehicle blaze in an attempt to determine its exact cause.

The vehicle was not on a Ford recall list, and the owner said she has no plans to take legal action against the company.
