NNSL (June 09/97) - A Fort Resolution woman has been charged with hitting her daughter's teacher in the face as four people watched.

The 42-year-old mother went to Deninoo school Tuesday afternoon to speak with Sandra Isaac, who's been teaching at the school for a year.

She had been speaking to the teacher about her daughter, a student at the school, before the alleged assault, which took place in the school's foyer just after 2 p.m.

The teacher was not injured.

"It's a matter where a parent came in irate and became aggressive," said a resident of Fort Resolution who didn't want to be identified. "It has nothing to do with a child being suspended or expelled."

The man said that the situation is unfortunate, one which has never before happened at the school.

"The parent herself has a lot of issues to deal with and took it out on the person on the front line," he said.

He maintains that this isn't a problem specific to Fort Resolution.

"Teachers everywhere have to deal with irrational, social behaviour," he said. "Teachers have a difficult job."

While RCMP aren't releasing details of the assault, Const. Freeman Sweazey described the alleged incident as an unprovoked attack.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Fort Resolution July 7.
