NNSL (June 04/97) - In a gesture toward Manitoba flood relief, the Federation de Franco-TeNOise has donated two summer job positions to Manitoba.

All the provinces and territories were asked to help out, says Daniel Lamoureux, executive director of the federation. So the NWT federation donated one public and one private summer placement to Manitoba under the Youth Canada Works program.

The summer job-creation program operates in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage and targets both employers and students.

It offers employers the chance to hire qualified bilingual students for the summer to match specific needs. Students work in their second language -- in French or English.

Originally, the NWT federation had eight student positions. Some have been filled. They had three non-profit, one public-sector and four private. There are two places left in the private sector to fill.

Under the program employers receive 50 per cent of the student's salary in financial assistance. They are also eligible for help with a portion of a student's airfare and $50-a-week room and board.
