MLAs' salaries

NNSL (June 2/97) - Speaker of the House Sam Gargan, a veteran of territorial politics, cost taxpayers a total of $178,215 last year.

The Deh Cho MLA earned more than any other MLA last year, according to a list released last week detailing territorial politicians earnings and expenses from April 1 1996 to March 31 1997.

With their homes and offices in the capital, and consequently lower living expenses, Yellowknife MLAs were at the bottom of the list.
