NNSL (June 27/97) - City hall bid goodbye to two of its own at Monday's council meeting.

Alderman Jo MacQuarrie announced she's moving to Edmonton to care for an ill family member and would be vacating her seat June 30.

Finance chief Joe Kronstal quit Friday to pursue dairy farming full time.

Aldermen took time at the end of the meeting to pay tribute to both.

"I haven't liked all of you all of the time," said MacQuarrie to the rest of council, "but I've enjoyed working with you."

First elected in 1982, MacQuarrie served two terms before leaving municipal politics. She was called back to fill a vacancy left on council in 1993, and kept the seat when she was elected again in 1994.

Kronstal was in the gallery for dairy business with council that night. Though he did not speak, council commended him for his good work during nine years as the city's head of finance.

"I think all of us appreciate what Mr. Kronstal has done for the city, his integrity and the way he has conducted himself in these difficult times," said alderman Blake Lyons.

Lyons was referring to criticism that Kronstal's position with the city was compromised by his involvement with the dairy.

In her parting comments, MacQuarrie commended city hall staff for their excellent work and thanked the public for their support.
