NNSL (June 25/97) - "I'm not a criminal," says Wing Lee.

The 61-year-old man police have now charged with 23 separate offences ranging from making child pornography and sexual assault to carrying a concealed weapon said last week he's the victim of a police conspiracy.

That conspiracy, said Lee, is an effort to cover up what he believes was a botched drug raid on his Gold Range Hotel residence, May 30.

"They ripped walls apart and destroyed all my stuff," he said.

At the time of the interview, Lee was facing just seven gambling, firearms, pornography, assault and sex charges. Friday, that number tripled.

But Lee said it doesn't matter how many times police charge him -- he's still the victim.

"I can't walk around downtown without people being angry at me, calling me pervert and things like that," said Lee.

"Police have ruined my reputation and they will get theirs when this is all over," he said. He added that he wants the force to fire all of the investigators.

At the centre of the RCMP investigation into Lee's Gold Range activities -- which police say began as a gambling raid -- are 1,300 videotapes filled with images of naked girls and women.

Police allege the tapes are pornographic. Some of them show girls as young as 13.

Lee disagrees. He says the videos are his diaries, a private collection of memories of friends and acquaintances he has made since he began living in the Gold Range in 1989.

"I don't write good like some people, so I keep my diary on videotape. I'm no dirty old man. I just like to have memories, just like a diary. That's not porn," said Lee.

He said police have harassed him constantly since the midnight raid on his residence last month.

He also said Mounties are lying to people they have identified on his videos to turn them against him for court purposes.

"Those police are just liars. Liars have no right to be police. They will see when Lee is found not guilty and the judge throws the whole thing out of court," said Lee.

He is scheduled to make his first territorial court appearance on the original seven charges next month, but has been held in custody all weekend awaiting a bail hearing.

Police say by the time Lee's July court date arrives, he may be facing even more sex and porn-related charges.
