NNSL (June 25/97) - Five Aces Social Club head Wing Lee is in custody after police charged him with 20 additional crimes, all sex-related.

Police re-arrested the 61-year-old poker baron Friday afternoon, seized his passport, and are holding him in custody for at least the duration of his bail hearing which got under way on Monday.

"These charges arise as a result of further investigation by the detachment and plainclothes members of the city," Staff Sgt. Dave Grundy said Friday in a news release.

The new charges include:

  • five counts of possession of child pornography
  • seven counts of making child pornography
  • five counts of paying for sex with a person under 18
  • two counts of sexual assault
  • one count of sexual interference with a person under 14

The new charges involve four young women aged 13 to 19. All were under 18 when the alleged assaults took place, Grundy said.

The charges -- 26 in all -- are the result of a three-month investigation into Lee's poker activities at his Gold Range Hotel residence, where he operated the Five Aces Social Club.

RCMP raided the three-room, $1,300-a-month residence May 30, arresting Lee and carting away a truckload of evidence, including hundreds of photos of naked women and girls, 1,300 videotapes, 14 handguns, gambling paraphernalia and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Prior to Friday's arrest, police had already charged Lee with:

  • paying for sex with a minor
  • sexual assault on a person under 14
  • keeping a common gaming house
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon
  • careless storage of a firearm

"The investigation is continuing and further charges may be forthcoming," said Grundy.

At least three RCMP members are working the case, which entails viewing hundreds of hours of videotapes and hundreds of photographs seized from Lee's residence during the raid.

Grundy said he doesn't expect the investigation to be complete until August.

Lee has been ordered by a justice of the peace to stay away from girls under 18, and is scheduled to make a territorial court appearance July 22 to address the first seven charges.
