NNSL (June 20/97) - Canada has become a second home for Margarietta St. Juste. And this week she got a chance to see the biggest room in the house.

Jamaica's consul general to Canada, St. Juste has seen just about every other region during her 14 years here working for her government.

A former trade commissioner to Canada, St. Juste next month concludes a four-year term as consul general, a job in which she serves Jamaican nationals visiting and living in Canada.

"All my holiday plans were made particularly with this week in mind," said St. Juste during a reception at the Northern Frontier Visitors Centre. "I wanted to be here for the summer solstice."

St. Juste will be in Inuvik for the longest day of the year, which occurs tomorrow.

She spent three days in Yellowknife and departed Wednesday for visits to Cambridge Bay, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk.

"Its wonderful here," said St. Juste. "I miss the trees, of course, but I'm amazed by how different the North is from the rest of Canada."

The chance to see the North was made possible by NWT Air.

"We think it's extremely important for people from the south to gain the opportunity to experience the many features of the North," said NWT Air's Tracy St. Denis.

St. Juste plugged her own country as an ideal winter vacation spot for Northerners.

"Jamaica's a wonderful place for people here to visit, especially in February. We can promise you days of sunshine and warm weather."

Though she is soon to return to the sunshine and warmth, St. Juste will be doing so with mixed feelings.

"I'm going to miss Canada, but it's always nice to go home."
