NNSL (May 09/97) - There's a reason Yellowknifers haven't been seeing huge signs promoting the NDP party all around the town, say party members.

"We are running a fiscally responsible campaign," said Mary Beth Levan, Western Arctic NDP candidate.

"Many of the donations to my campaign have been coming from people who are barely able to make ends meet as it is," said Levan. "These are the people who I want to give a voice in Ottawa."

The NDP's vow to only accept donations from individuals, groups and small businesses that keep the interests of the average Canadian in the forefront.

"We're running a fiscally responsible campaign, so moderation, organization and innovation are the way to go," said Levan.

Levan will rely on her community supporters for accommodation and transportation to other communities while campaigning.

Levan was in Norman Wells and Fort Good Hope earlier this week, she will be participating in an all-candidates meeting Tuesday, May 13 at the Tree of Peace.
