NNSL (Apr 04/97) - A Yellowknife woman is recovering from face injuries after she was beaten with a boot Wednesday night, RCMP say.

A 44-year-old Yellowknife man is in custody and charged with assault and a 69-year-old Yellowknife man is charged with both assault and assaulting a police officer. The two were arrested on the street near the home.

The woman told police she was beaten with snowmobile boots around 6:30 p.m. after she arrived at her Forrest Drive home.

Staff Sgt. Dave Grundy said that there are a lot of assaults in Yellowknife, particularly spousal assaults.

"We are getting more spousal assaults reported," he said. "And the number of spousal assaults is on the rise. Although, we still get a lot of charges dropped after they've been laid."

The 44-year-old man will remain in custody until Tuesday when he appears in court, and the 69-year-old man will appear in court May 13.
