Beautiful watercolour paintings will adorn the walls of the Northern United Place auditorium tomorrow - all in celebration of the Yellowknife Watercolour Society's 10th anniversary.

The show is featuring members' work from the past year - work they painted at monthly group sessions and during the professionally taught workshop the society holds once a year, according to painter Natalie Makletzoff.
"There will be art scenes, landscapes, floral and still life, some portraits and people," she said.
"It's all original art and it's all reasonably priced. It's all done by local artists in Yellowknife. It's all people who have been struggling and working to become better painters."
Makletzoff promises the show will be worthwhile because the watercolour society is full of painters who take their art very seriously, which is in large part due to the dedication of the society to developing its artists' skill.
Every month, for example, it holds group painting sessions where members get together and encourage each other to become better painters. In addition, yearly workshops taught by professional watercolour painters are held which helps to vastly improve the members' skills and make them "stick out," Makletzoff said.
While the Yellowknife Watercolour Society holds an art show every year, this one is particularly special because it marks its 10th year as an active society dedicated to watercolour painters.
As a professional painter, Makletzoff said the relationships she had developed as a member of the society over the years has vastly improved her skills.
"For me it's enjoyable to meet with other painters and exchange ideas," she said.
"It keeps me involved in what I love to do, and it's nice to have the fellowship of other artists."
On Saturday, society members will be present to show off and sell their artwork.
There will also be an opportunity for visitors to try watercolour painting.
"It's a big day because we are celebrating surviving for so long and how we have grown into a strong group of painters. We want to let people know that we are here and we've been around for quite a while."
