Two charged break and enter
Two young people face charges for an alleged break and enter late Monday at a downtown business, according to RCMP.
In a news release, police state they were called Tuesday morning to an unnamed business that had been broken into overnight. A vehicle was stolen from the business. A 23-year old woman and 21-year-old man were located and charged with break and enter and theft of a vehicle. Both appear in court Nov. 15.

Bromley blaze to be probed
The NWT fire marshal Chucker Dewar says a fire Sunday at a home at 52 Bromley Dr. does not appear to be suspicious. According to a news release from the city, a call came in from a resident over the noon hour Sunday about a fire in the basement of the house. While fire crews were responding, another resident used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire in the downstairs bedroom, the city stated. Three residents were treated for smoke inhalation but none went to hospital.

Seventy years of Guild
The Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts opened its 70th anniversary celebration exhibition last night at the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre. The exhibit includes items made by guild members past and present, which will be on display until March.
The guild is one of the oldest in Canada, established in 1946.

Former Yker nominated for literary award
Former Yellowknifer Colette Langlois is one of three nominees for the Writers' Trust/McClelland & Steward Journey Prize, which honours the best short story published in a Canadian literary journal. The winner will win $10,000, with the two finalists receiving $1,000 prizes and the literary journal that published the winning story receiving $2,000. Langlois is nominated for The Emigrants, which interweaves letters from the last survivor of a colony on Mars, and letters from a man who emigrates to Saskatchewan from England in the late-nineteenth century.
