The Makuktu Art Project, based in Iqaluit, is spreading the joy of creativity across the territory this month.
"Nunavut Youth Arts Month is a month-long celebration of youth arts whereby youth co-ordinators across Nunavut are encouraged to create, organize and facilitate free arts workshops in their communities," stated spokesperson Pascale Arpin in a news release.
"Thanks to funding from the Michaelle Jean Foundation and TD Bank Social Change for the Arts Bursary, community co-ordinators will receive support from the Makuktu Art Project, which has been successfully running free youth arts workshops in Iqaluit for the past four years."
The goal of arts month is to provide opportunities for youth to become engaged in creative activities, run for youth and by youth, and in any artistic disciplines, including visual arts, dance, theatre, music and culinary arts.
"Artistic engagement allows youth to develop new skills and self-confidence while allowing them to express themselves and find their own unique artistic voice," said Arpin.
