Police seek missing woman

Yellowknife RCMP are asking for help to find 31-year-old Crystal Solomon who was reported missing by her family Monday.

According to an RCMP news release issued Tuesday evening, she was last seen on the afternoon of Nov. 25 leaving her residence to meet a friend. It's not known whether she met with anyone or where she may have gone.

She was driving a black Chevrolet Cruze with Alberta licence plate BKC2240. She's described as being five feet, two inches tall weighing 145 lbs with shoulder-length blonde hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call Yellowknife RCMP at 669-1111.

$100,000 in drugs seized in raid

Approximately $100,000 in drugs was seized when 10 officers searched a unit at the Fort Gary Apartments on Monday, RCMP Const. Elenore Sturko stated in a news release. Police searched the warrant the Gitzel Street apartment at 3:30 p.m. and arrested five people in the investigation. Three of those people were at the apartment.

Five-hundred-and-seventy-three grams of crack-cocaine, 201 grams of powder cocaine and 29 grams of marijuana were seized. The approximate street value of the stash is $100,000, according to RCMP.

Names of those arrested will be released once charges are laid.

Angel Tree Project returns

An organizer for a gift and necessities drive, dubbed the Angel Tree Project, for children residing at Lynn's Place continues to look for assistance up to Dec. 18. Project founder Katie Parker said 18 children at the YWCA women's shelter have been sponsored so far. SThose interested in donating are asked to contact YWCA.

City to host Catholic school trustees

The Canadian Catholic School Trustees Association will hold its annual general meeting in Yellowknife June 9 to 11 but registration for the conference opens in December. Yellowknife Catholic Schools superintendent Claudia Parker told trustees gathered at its regular board meeting Nov. 16 the district is gearing up to host around 200 people.

Still no comment from Calm Air

Kivalliq

Despite assurances to the contrary, representatives of Calm Air would not, again this week, be interviewed concerning a number of airtravel issues affecting the Kivalliq region, especially long waits for customers to receive their cargo shipments.

The issue was raised in the Nov. 25 edition of Kivalliq News ("Product grounded") by Kivalliq Arctic Foods plant manager Todd Johnson.

The Rankin Inlet Rock female bantam-midget squad of Tia Adams, Joy Angnetsiak, Joanna Anawak, Evelyn Autut, Elinor Mercer, Jaydene Pilakapsi, Nicole Ymana, Tatiana Taipana, Lukisha Tatty, Riley Lachance, Silu Panniuq, Brenda Tarralik, Sanisha Nakoolak, Catherine Ayaruak, Dayna Cox, Jayda Pilakapsi, Caroline Gibbons and Charlotte Karetak (Arviat) travelled to Calgary, Alta., to compete in the World Female Hockey Festival this past week.

All That Glam

Coral Harbour/Ottawa

The third annual All That Glam charity fundraiser of lightlyused jewellery was held this past week in Ottawa.

Proceeds from the event go towards helping the breakfast program at Sakku School in Coral Harbour.

For the first time this year, in addition to jewellery, artwork done by Sakku School students was also up for sale.

The event was started threeyears ago by Eva von Jagow, who was a Grade 12 student at the time.

Jagow has kept the fundraiser going since graduating and has raised at least $20,000 from the event for the Sakku breakfast program each year.
