A man brandishing a large knife entered the Mac's on Forrest Drive on Wednesday at approximately 3:45 a.m., according to an RCMP news release. The store clerk immediately fled the scene and the assailant proceeded to steal approximately $70 in cash from the store's register before leaving the store, the release states.

Around 3 p.m. yesterday a male was arrested.

"He was just arrested this afternoon, the investigation is still going on," said RCMP Const. Elenore Sturko.

As of press time, no charges have been laid. Sturko was able to confirm that the individual is Caucasian and was located and arrested at residence in Yellowknife, but otherwise could not reveal any additional information about the case.

"Our members are working very expeditiously on this," she told Yellowknifer prior to the arrest. "Obviously an armed robbery is a serious offence."

Police did review surveillance footage from the store and but did not release images from that evidence to the public to assist in their investigation. Sturko could not confirm whether or not video surveillance taken from the convenience store led to the arrest.

"Investigators worked very hard on this investigation and we're very pleased that we were able to locate and arrest the suspect just about a day later," she said.
