They're both too young to understand the misery of sharing a marriage bed with a chronic snorer, but the actors in an upcoming play at Mackenzie Mountain School understand comedy.
"We're two teenagers and we're playing an old married couple, I just think it's going to be really funny," said Emily Hodgson. "It's going to remind them of themselves. I've heard this exact argument go on in real life, so I'm sure it will be funny for people."
Hodgson and her classmate, Darren Whiteman, play married couple Maris and Wayne in their school's upcoming performance of Snore, a play about a woman who fantasizes about killing her husband after 22 sleepless years listening to his snoring, said principal Michael Duclos. It will be performed as part of a Breakfast for Dinner Theatre fundraiser to raise money for the drama club and the school's graduation. Hodgson said the goal is simple.
"We want to raise as much money as possible," she
said. Ideally, funds raised throughout the year will be used to purchase items for the graduation ceremony, as well possibly class rings or hoodie sweatshirts to commemorate the graduating class.
"We want the grad ceremony to look nice," Hodgson said. "We're really hoping for grad rings or hoodies, something we can remember the night by."
While Hodgson and Whiteman perform the play, the rest of the graduating class will be busy making the meal, which will consist of breakfast items, Duclos said. While the menu isn't quite finalized, students have ideas about what they might like to cook.
"It will be steak and eggs or eggs benedict, things like that," Duclos said.
Dinner will be served first and the half-hour play will follow.
"People just like to laugh and have a good time and leave a show with a big smile on their face," Duclos said.
Whiteman believes attendees will leave happy.
"The food will be good and hopefully we put on a good play and people will laugh a lot," he said.
The Breakfast for Dinner Theatre is scheduled to take place Dec. 4 at 6
p.m.
