Cabinet not in contempt
On Oct. 7, Jackie Jacobson, Speaker of the legislative assembly, announced his ruling on a "point of privilege" raised last month by Range Lake MLA Daryl Dolynny.
Dolynny had argued that in an early September announcement, the territorial government left the impression a decision was made to grant a nearly $30-million subsidy to the NWT Power Corporation without first allowing MLAs to debate and vote on the matter. Jacobson ruled the government had communicated that a subsidy would be included in a bill for the assembly's consideration, so it is not in contempt of the legislative assembly.

Village wants Deneyoua Drive
Fort Simpson is sending a formal letter to the Department of Transportation asking that the department transfer responsibility for Deneyoua Drive from the territory to the village.
According to information presented to council on Sept. 21, the village will be asking to cost-share regular maintenance at a rate of 50 per cent with the Department of Transportation.
An e-mail between the village's senior administrative officer Beth Jumbo and the department states some residents have complained about the current condition of Deneyoua Drive, although the department said it had a grader out on the road.
The village received an update from the Department of Transportation on Sept. 29, stating that maintenance funding may not be available if the village were to take over ownership of the road.
