Justin Trudeau to visit Yk
Federal Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau is set to visit Friday as part of the federal campaign to show support for NWT candidate Michael McLeod, according to McLeod's campaign manager.
"The details are to be confirmed, we will be making a public announcement," said Kieron Testart.
"We're very excited to have Justin on the same stage as Michael. We've always been working hand in hand on this campaign."
They are still confirming details as to where and when the pair of candidates will make a public appearance, Testart said.

Murder case set over to November
A 36-year-old man accused of murdering Elvis Lafferty and maiming and attempting to murder Elsie Manlta will return to court Nov. 10. Kevin Mantla, accused of the attack at a Lanky Court apartment building Sept. 28, was in court last week. Mantla will be held in custody until his appearance by video next month. He's also under orders not to contact six people, including Elsie Mantla.

No plans to change HPV program
The Department of Health and Social Services does not currently have plans to provide HPV immunization to boys free of charge, according to a department spokesperson. In an e-mail to Yellowknifer, Damien Healy stated most jurisdictions in Canada continue to only fund the HPV vaccine for girls.
"The Department is not reviewing its HPV program at this time, but will continue to monitor the experience in other jurisdictions," he said.
Alberta, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and British Columbia currently offer free HPV vaccination for boys.

Frame Lake riding attracts new contenders
Two more Yellowknifers have announced their intentions to run as candidates in the riding of Frame Lake riding during next month's territorial election.
Roy Erasmus, a lawyer who served one term as an MLA in the 1990s, and Kevin O'Reilly, the executive director of the Independent Environmental Monitoring Agency, have both publicly stated their plans to run for public office.
The Frame Lake riding is currently held by Wendy Bisaro. She said she is not seeking re-election.

Debate wanted in Rankin
Rankin Inlet/Kivalliq
The Kivalliq Chamber of Commerce's interim president Glenn McLean is calling on the four federal candidates - the Liberal's Hunter Tootoo, the NDP's Jack Anawak, Tory incumbent Leona Aglukkaq and the Green Party's Spencer Rocchi - to hold an allcandidates debate in Rankin Inlet before the upcoming Oct. 19 federal election.
McLean wrote in a press release this past week that the Kivalliq has a unique business environment with a diversified economy, and people of the region should have an opportunity to ask questions of the four MP hopefuls that affect the Kivalliq.
McLean said the chamber, especially, would like to hear candidate positions on both the proposed hydro grid and allweather road between the Kivalliq and Manitoba.
Call for hockey board executives
Rankin Inlet
The Rankin Inlet Minor Hockey Association (RIMHA) is asking hockey people in the community to step up and take one of the executive board positions not yet filled.
As of press time, RIMHA was still looking for people to fill the vacant vicepresident's spot, as well as tournament organizers, and division representatives for the initiation, novice, atom, peewee, bantam, midget and girl's groups, as well as a member at large.
RIMHA currently has the positions of president (David Clark) and secretary/treasurer (Craig Collier) filled.
RIMHA is also looking for coaches for initiation, novice, bantam and midget levels.
The final two days for parents to register their children with RIMHA for the upcoming hockey season are Friday, Oct. 9, and Friday, Oct. 16, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the arena lobby.
The cost this season to register youths for minor hockey are $150 for one child, $250 for two children, $325 for three children and $75 for each additional child after three. A health card is required for registration.
Help line gets support
Nunavut
Bell Canada announced its Let's Talk campaign has, to date, contributed $100 million to mental health initiatives across Canada this past week.
Northwestel is one of the funding partners for the Kamatsiaqtut Help Line, which provides confidential, anonymous help and support to struggling Nunavut youths.
Northwestel's support helps allow the Kamatsiaqtut Help Line to gather the funds needed to run the service, train volunteers and provide 24/7 support year round to people across the territory in English, French and Inuktitut.
Heritage trust workshop coming up
Rankin Inlet
The Inuit Heritage Trust's cultural heritage interpretation workshop is scheduled to conclude today, Oct. 7, in Rankin Inlet.
The workshop was scheduled to run in Rankin from Oct. 27, with Catherine Cole being its head facilitator.
Hockey camp
Rankin Inlet
Oct. 19 to 23 have been announced as the dates for the second annual seasonopener hockey camp in Rankin Inlet.
As with the camp's inaugural year, this year will again blend literacy components and office activities with onice instruction.
The literacy portion, however, will be less than in 2014, due to the lack of literacy funding available in 2015.
