BEHCHOKO/RAE-EDZO
A single-vehicle accident near Behchoko has left one person dead and another seriously injured.

On Sept. 30, at approximately 1 p.m., a member of the RCMP encountered an accident at an intersection along the access road to Behchoko, which police are describing as a "roll-over collision".

Two people were found outside the vehicle, both with injuries.

"It is believed that the individuals were ejected from the vehicle," stated Const.. Elenore Sturko in an e-mail to News/North.

The accident is believed to have occurred shortly before the officer on patrol arrived at the scene.

"RCMP believe the (officer) came across the collision within minutes of it occurring."

The road was closed for approximately one hour as a result of the crash.

Investigators located alcohol at the scene, although whether or not this was a factor in the accident has not been confirmed. Both victims were transported to the Behchoko Health Centre where one was pronounced dead.

The other was transported by medevac to Yellowknife that same day.

"We will not be releasing personal information about the individuals involved," said Sturko.

"They have been identified and their families have been notified."
