Previously serving as the deputy mayor, Bussey said her focus has been societal concerns, specifically working to improve the city's homeless situation through her position as co-chair of the community advisory board and social issues committee, which organized the city's first homeless count and supported the opening of Hope's Haven - a transitional home for youth.

"We need to look at how we can work on homelessness and address social issues and I think good things have been done in the past three years," she said.

This term, Bussey said she would also like to start working on improving services for seniors so it is easier for people to retire here.

"I'm retiring here, even if all of my friends are leaving," she said. "It's been very difficult the past few years, but this is my home. I want to make this a place for people to retire."

Business and economic development will also be an area she intends to pursue, along with improving environmental stewardship through the support of a new central energy system at the fire hall, Multiplex and arena.

"One thing that's very important for me is to support reasonable and sustainable revitalization projects everywhere - we need to balance things out," she said. "To address social issues, we need to engage local business and we need to engage local business by implementing practical incentives and initiatives."
