IQALUIT
Only weeks after RCMP made arrests that ended a rash of robberies and armed robberies at Iqaluit variety stores, police are investigating two similar robberies.

On March 31, two men wearing ski masks hailed a taxi from the Storehouse Bar at about 10:17 p.m., asking to be driven to the 2200 block. Upon arrival, the men became violent and demanded money from the taxi driver. They fled near Joamie School. Both were wearing dark jackets and ski masks, appeared to be over 20 years old, and were speaking Inuktitut.

A week later, on April 6, police responded to an armed robbery at the downtown Quickstop, which houses KFC and Pizza Hut. Two people wearing black clothing with their faces covered demanded money and fled the scene. One appeared to be carrying a weapon.

No one was hurt in either incident. People with information are encouraged to call the police or CrimeStoppers.
