Investigators with the RCMP major crimes unit are expected to return to Fort Simpson in "the near future" according to a report from police to village council.
The information was revealed in a monthly report the detachment commander, Sgt. Chris Woodman, provides to the mayor and councillors.
RCMP spokeswoman Const. Elenore Sturko said she wouldn't say whether investigators are returning because of new information from a January visit nor whether police have a suspect or suspects in mind.
"Although people have been co-operative we still believe there are further witnesses who have information and we urge them to come forward," she stated in an e-mail.
Police said they've made an successful appeal for more information Nov. 28 and that this prompted their return to the community in January to search for more leads.
On that visit, a drone was used to capture video around a gazebo at the rear of the village health centre but it crashed on a second flight.
While they were there, police also spoke to witnesses and reexamined the area where Cholo's body was found.
Cholo was last seen in the community in late November 2013 before police found the 45-year-old man dead inside a gazebo near the health centre on Jan. 9, 2014.
Police have not revealed how Cholo died.
