The fifth annual Baker Lake Animal Wellness Clinic will be held in the community from Saturday, Sept. 14, through to Friday, Sept. 20.
The clinic is conducted by members of the Canadian Animal Assistance Team.
The volunteer team members offer their veterinary services to the community free of charge.
Baker Lake Animal Wellness clinic co-ordinator Susan MacIssac said the clinic will be offering Baker furry residents free vaccines, deworming and checkups.
She said the visiting team will also be conducting free spays and neuters, as well as general basic surgery.
"The clinic will also be distributing the Nunavut Department of Health rabies vaccines," said MacIsaac. "We're hoping every animal owner in the community of Baker Lake will take this opportunity to get their animals vaccinated against rabies by a veterinarian at no charge.
The clinic will open at 9 a.m. on its first day, Sept. 14, and than at 10 a.m. from Sept. 15 to Sept. 20.
Vaccines, deworming and checkups will be held at the RCMP garage. The spay-and-neuter surgeries will be conducted at the Wildlife Office garage.
No appointment is required to bring an animal to the vaccine clinic, but are recommended for surgery so the organizers can do their best to ensure each owner gets a date and time convenient for them.
The last day to book appointments for surgery is Thursday, Sept. 19, the day before the final date of the visit.
MacIsaac said those looking to book appointments can contact the local vet clinic co-ordinators or look for The Buddy Fund on Facebook.
She said The Buddy Fund members deserve a great deal of credit for their efforts on behalf of the animal population of Baker Lake.
"The community raises the funds to cover the cost of bringing the team to Baker through the fundraising efforts of The Buddy Fund,” she said. "First Air sponsors us with discounted airfare, and the Qulliq Energy Corp. sponsors the accommodations for our team while we're in town."
