ARVIAT
Students from two very different career paths joined forces to promote their summer learning endeavours.

Ramon Kaviok has been working on his photography skills with the Department of Education's Eric Anoee this summer, while Kasimee Ishalook and Johnny Kaviok Jr. have spent their time with the Arviat detachment of the RCMP.

The three recently came together to promote a clean community lifestyle, with Ramon conducting a question-and-answer exercise with Johnny and Kasimee.

The resulting answers have been distributed around the community of Arviat.

Do you like your job and, if so, why?

Kasimee: "Yes. To aid against alcohol consumption by helping residents who may be intoxicated by taking care of them. And to help prevent drug abuse in the community."

Johnny: "Yes. To help my community in public obedience."

What do you do at your workplace?

Kasimee: "I file papers and enter data into computers. I also conduct fingerprinting of individuals."

Johnny: "I help enforce traffic laws, do paperwork and help out in the summer camp for youth."

Is community policing important for Arviat? If so, why?

Kasimee: "It is important, as we control alcohol and alcohol-related incidents. It is also important to control drug abuse in the community."

Johnny: "It is important to control abuse of alcohol and drugs."

What is your advice to youth?

Kasimee: "Stay out of drugs and trouble, and obey the law."

Johnny: "Stay out of trouble and have a good healthy life."
